A claret style Zinfandel with full, jammy flavors of blackberry, raspberry, black cherry and wild berry flavors with a hint of black pepper and anise. A nice touch of acidity makes a clean, food friendly finish. Our expert wine panel enjoyed it from appetizers through to dessert and wished they had more.
Zinfandel is one of those grapes that people just fall in love with. This grape, whose origins are still unknown with certainty, thrives in small pockets in California. This thick skinned dark berry grape constructs wines that have a luscious mouthfeel, berry jam flavors, and silky vanilla overlays. Backhouse comes from the winemakers who started out with a small vineyard in Sonoma Valley over 20 years and to this day, they are staying true to producing wines of boutique quality for a great value. Backhouse Zinfandel gives you rich dark fruit flavors, hints of allspice, thin layers of vanilla nestled in silky smooth finish. A perfect wine for this upcoming barbecue season.
After two solid days tasting Zinfandels at the annual ZAP festival in San Francisco (the largest gathering of Zinfandel winemakers and enthusiasts in the world), this wine captured our attention immediately – unpretentious, understated and easy drinking. Aromas focus on sweet berry and licorice. Delicate fruit flavors complement the aromas while gentle tannins permit the flavors to shine through a nicely structured texture.
Coming to us from some of the oldest Zinfandel plantings in California, the Sierra Trails Old Vine Zinfandel is a complex wine offering aromas of ripe berry, dried plum and red currants. These remarkable fragrances are echoed in the flavoring where a hint tobacco, black pepper spice and sweet oak lifts the fruit and carry them through a lingering finish.
