2012 Sensual Malbec
Amongst the most popular Argentine Malbecs to reach the States, the Sensual Malbec comes from a single vineyard in San Rafael, Mendoza around 2,500 feet above sea level. Originally available only in restaurants, Wine Insiders couldn’t be more excited to have it for our customers. Rich and weighty on the palate, yet soft and silky in texture, the wine’s flavors echo with the lovely aromas. Malbec is a purple grape varietal originating from Bordeaux that’s growing increasingly regarded as an Argentinean wine grape, although it’s grown world-wide. The Malbec creates an intense violet wine and the best vintages tend to come from the high-altitude Argentinian region of Mendoza. Prior to prohibition, it was grown all across California, but remained in obscurity int the states from the time of prohibition until it experienced a surge in popularity during the 1990s.
2012 Black Fox Cabernet
The 2012 Black Fox Cabernet is a fruit-forward classic example of a great California Cabernet. Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the better known red wine grape varietals worldwide. Known as a prominent Bordeaux wine, expect to find it blended with Merlots and Cabernet Franc. California Cabernet’s are regarded nearly as highly as their French cousins, especially after the famed 1976 Judgment of Paris when a California Cab beat out some of Bordeaux’s best in a blind test by French experts. It’s also the second most planted grape in Washington State, after Merlot, and is also planted in Arizona, New York, Texas and Virginia. Cabernet wines are dense, dark and tannic and many have a strong black fruit flavor.
2012 Cannery Row Chardonnay
Based in Monterey County along California’s famed Central Coast, the talented winemaker blended fruit from a cool-climate vineyard along the Arroyo Seco riverbed with a small lot from a warm inland valley. The result: a stylish, delicious, classic California Chardonnay. Its fresh fruit aromas lead to flavors of apple, nectarine and ripe juicy melon. A hint of toasty oak and vanilla from oak aging adds depth and complexity, while a balancing acidity keeps it refreshing.
2011 Tied Knot Riesling
The 2011 vintage of the Tied Knot Riesling continues the winery's legacy of consistency. It's delicate, soft and notably approachable, but without sacrificing a certain special crispness. Our experts were most impressed by how nicely balanced they found this vintage, with a fruity conglomeration of Meyer lemon, pink grapefruit and peach being the catalyst in both the flavor and aroma of the wine. The Riesling grape varietal is an aromatic, dry white that evokes thoughts of flowers and perfumes. Originating from the Rhine region of Germany, it's considered amongst the three most important white wine varietals along with Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc. Rieslings have a rich and storied history. The earliest known documentation of the wine being produced comes from Alsace in 1477 and by the late-nineteenth century, the grape made it's way to our shores.
