2014 Bayshore Vintners Pinot Grigio

This lovely wine from Bayshore is produced from one of the first vineyards in California planted with Pinot Grigio that originally focused on dessert wines. That is until a wine importer, seeing the potential for table wines, used these grapes to launch a line of food-friendly table wines.  Gorgeous aromas jump out of the glass and delicious flavors of melon, citrus and tangerine are completed by a refreshing thread of crisp acidity.

Tasting Notes
This lovely wine from Bayshore is produced from one of the first vineyards in California planted with Pinot Grigio that originally focused on dessert wines. That is until a wine importer, seeing the potential for table wines, used these grapes to launch a line of food-friendly table wines. Since this wine is notable for its gorgeous aromas and delicious flavors of melon, citrus and tangerine, and refreshing acidity, and it appears the winemakers were successful in making a fantastic food wine.

It was hard to make out what our expert wine panel was saying about the Bayshore Pinot Grigio because they were wolfing down their meal alongside it like animals. “Paired correctly,” one expert managed through bites, “This is a…. Wine that makes… all food better.” The expert beside her nodded furiously, adding, “You won’t be… able to… stop eating!” We let them finish their meal and enjoy the wine in peace. Grab this before your next dinner party!
Varietal Notes
Thought be be a mutant clone of Pinot Noir, Pinot Grig/Grigio tends to have a rose colored grape that makes exquisite white wines. Originating from Burgundy, it’s generally known as Pinot Grig, while the Italian strain of the grape gets the Grigio moniker. Stateside, California versions of the wine usually are given the Grigio designation because of their similarity to their Italian counterparts, while Oregonian wines take the Grig.
Winemaker Notes
Bayshore is produced from one of the first vineyards in California planted with Pinot Grigio, focused on producing dessert wines until it was discovered by a wine importer who, seeing the potential for table wines, used these grapes to launch her own food friendly, table wine. The wine was an immediate success. Grapes from this vineyard are on strict allocation to a handful of winemakers.

My husband and I gave two bottles of this to a vegan friend for their birth day and he reported back that this was a perfect pairing for vegan cheese dishes. Thanks!
