2015 Moon Crest Sauvignon Blanc
This California Sauvignon Blanc, grown in a sunny, protected valley nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, showcases the balanced flavors of a cooler weather Sauvignon Blanc. A touch of Semillon adds depth. There’s a taste of freshly mowed sweet grass and you’ll find back notes of green apple, almonds and a hint of vinegar on the balanced finish. Once our expert wine panel first got hold of the 2013 Moon Crest Sauvignon Blanc, they kept asking when summer was going to come around. “This would absolutely be perfect for a cool summer night,” one commented, gazing longingly out the window. “I agree,” said another expert sitting next to her, “This is a wine with depth that can really relax you.” Although perfect for a cool summer night, you can enjoy this wine year round.
Originating from Bordeaux, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, elegant and fresh white wine produced worldwide. While it’s more of an international grape, it’s still popular in North America with California being a leading producer (to no one’s surprise). It’s produced widely in France, South America, Australia and New Zealand. California Sauvignon Blancs tend to resemble their New Zealand counterparts with more tropical fruit undertones and notes of citrus and passion fruit.
The Moon Crest winery takes its name from their practice of harvesting their wines by the light of the moon. Nighttime harvests take advantage of the cool of the evening when the air is the crispest and purest, as Moon Crest is already a cool weather vineyard with temperatures kept moderate by the Pacific Ocean.
Food Pairing Notes
Remarkably versatile food wine, equally at home with fresh goat cheese, seafood or vegetarian dishes that include citrus or fresh herbs. Try it with this delightful dish: http://blog.williams-sonoma.com/todays-recipe-roasted-fish-stuffed-with-fennel-fresh-herbs/
