2012 AltaMax Malbec
Who doesn't love Malbec from Mendoza, the heart of winemaking in Argentina. Malbec provides an alternative to California wines, providing a beautiful bouquet and palate profile for not a lot of money. Alta Max is the latest example of this trend of value Malbec that drinks absolutely beautifully. Flavors of plums and red ripe fruit with snappy raspberry and a bright vibrant finish makes this wine an enjoyable addition to any dinner. So much so this vintage was rated 86 points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. It's not hard to see why a wine of this quality and value is coveted. With Vina Maipu's mission to hand harvest grapes and Winemaker Didier De Bono's attention to detail, we welcome Alta Max to our cellars with joy.
2013 Pico Malbec
Why is it that Malbec from Argentina is so popular? Clues point to the fact that Argentina’s climate, soil, and dedication to making the best wine for the dollar make this is an easy thing to solve. Our latest discovery, Pico and its delicious fruit hail from Mendoza, the beating heart of Malbec for Argentina. It’s their Napa and it is such for a very good and obvious reason. Still not sure why? Well you have to taste this wine to understand but to give you an idea of your missing, this wine has smoky aromas interwined with blood orange and dark berries. Its’ flavor profile is a salute to the homeland of Malbec, Cahors in France. It drinks profoundly with dark fruits such as blackberry with herbaceous notes, and that nice overlay of smoky, destined to be best friends with many grilled meats. It’s full bodied, has a personality, and has a finish that can please the wine drinker in all of us.
2013 River's End Merlot
From two of the oldest vineyards along California's North Coast region where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean. The region known for ideal climate promotes slow, even maturing and great flavor development. A wonderful wine from the River’s End winemakers with ripe berry fruit flavors and aromas with a nice touch of oak. An amazingly versatile choice for serving with grilled duck, turkey, chicken, braised lamb, pork or beef – and a nice partner for dishes featuring a rich tomato sauce.
2013 Sierra Trails Zinfandel
Coming to us from some of the oldest Zinfandel plantings in California, the Sierra Trails Old Vine Zinfandel is a complex wine offering aromas of ripe berry, dried plum and red currants. These remarkable fragrances are echoed in the flavoring where a hint tobacco, black pepper spice and sweet oak lifts the fruit and carry them through a lingering finish.
2012 Spencer Family Cask One Red Blend
Fill up your cart with this deliciously smooth, robust red. Sweet black fruit aromas added to layers of ripe black cherry and plum flavors reflect a heavenly marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Syrah. Forward fruit flavors and a velvety texture make this a go-to red wine for every day enjoyment.
2013 N'Gumu Grenache - Shiraz
Ngumu is a brand that reminds us of the hard work it took to transform the rugged landscape of the Western Cape into the world renowned wine region it is today. South Africa’s first wine production was in 1685, but decimated by Phylloxera, this region didn’t see a resurgence until the 1970’s. Today, Western Cape is back on the world stage and both Grenache and Shiraz are amongst the most widelyplanted grapes of the region. This wine has a nose that opens with dark fruits of plum, black cherry and loads of clove, cashew, pine and a hint of violet. Bright fruit character opens on the mouthfeel with black cherry and ripe wild berries. This wine is well structured from good tannin presence and the finish is long and lasting.
2013 Tied Knot Riesling
A beautifully balanced wine that is delicate, soft and approachable yet refreshingly crisp. Fruit takes center stage in both aromas and flavors of meyer lemon, pink grapefruit and peach. Grapes for the Tied Knot Riesling come from one of the first vineyards planted to Riesling in California. This is a wine that pairs well with richly sauced seafood, poultry or fruited rice dishes.
2012 Kiyapura Sauvignon Blanc
This Kiyapura product is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, and is a classic example of what can be done with the variety in Central Chile, a region becoming renowned for its Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are exposed to wonderful sun and an almost greenhouse-like regularity of dry, hot days and dry, cool nights throughout the growing season--near perfect ripening conditions. The result is a clean, citrusy, lean and fresh wine. The nose is full of grapefruit and green apple followed by zesty flavors of green fruits, lime, and floral notes and a long, crisp finish. Outstanding as an aperitif or a cocktail wine, it is also ideal with salads using arugula, fennel, or roasted bell peppers, and is a refreshing companion for richer white meats like pork and lobster./p>
2013 Della Flora Viognier
Here’s a real winner. Viognier is the product of a white wine grape originally grown in Rhône River Valley of France as early as 281 AD. Like many Muscat and Riesling wines, Viognier is characteristically aromatic. One of our favorite Central Coast wineries, Saddlehorn Cellars, produced this delicious 2013 Della Flora from fruit grown in its heritage vineyards. It features aromas and flavors of floral, peach, apricot, pear, and melon.
2013 La Petite Tour Classic White
La Petite Tour wines were introduced more than 30 years ago. This blend of white grapes has remained the family's favorite. It was only made in small lots for their own table, until now. Exclusive to Wine Insiders, it is a delicately aromatic, medium-bodied wine with flavors of ripe pear and surprisingly bright citrus notes. And, it’s a versatile food wine, that pairs well with fish, grilled chicken or vegetables.
2011 Colombelle White IGT
Chances are you have never heard of the two grapes Colombard and Ugni Blanc. Only if you have deeply explored regions in France like Gascogne and Armangac, most people don't get to experience how amazing these grapes can be when made with passion. The results are beautiful, case in point with Colombelle White. Lots of tropical fruit and sweet lemon zest flavors are paired with balanced acids and a mouthfeel that has some depth.
2013 Willunga Chardonnay
The vintners behind Willunga have a great thing going. Chardonnay, being the worlds most widely planted white varietal, has so many different styles and interpretation that there is something for everybody. This one in particular we like. It comes to you balanced. Its straw pale color has slightly hints of green in the glass. Place you nose to the rim of the glass and you will get hints of lifted citrus, peaches, and hints of oak. Flavors of vibrant lemon and lime, white peach, and nutmeg mingle on your palete followed by an easy finish. This wine is perfect for roasted chicken with root vegetables and any type of curry and can be enjoyed right away.
