Hamilton Estates Chardonnay
Innovation and a curious spirit guide many different approaches to winemaking, but for the Napa winemaker, the goal is always quality over quantity. Blending grapes from different vineyards means being able to make a wine of greater complexity. Another way to create a unique, distinctive wine is to focus on a single place or single vineyard. Winemakers in Napa Valley have become famous for doing both. Golden color, aromas of guava and pear with hints of orange blossoms. The palate is full bodied and rich and balanced; the delicious fruit forward mouth feel is complex but structured and solid structure. A pleasure to enjoy young, it will age and develop gracefully for several years.
Granite Ridge Chenin Blanc
Chenin Blanc is a French grape that also is likely to have been one of the very earliest planted in South Africa, centuries ago. Combine the history of the grape in the country with Granite Ridge’s knack for making tasty wine, and you’ve got a surefire winner. Chenin Blanc is extremely versatile and can be used for just about everything in the white wine spectrum. However, it is hard to argue with Granite Ridge’s use of it to create their lively and fruity dry version. The fruit that is present on the palate tastes of pears and is joined with flavors of sherbet and even a hint of flintiness. The fresh fruit flavor lingers and the finish is notable for a hint of lime and minerality that leave the imbiber refreshed. Truly a great wine to be had any day you like, it is easily enjoyed outdoors with a salad or appetizer of your choice.
Chocolate Box Chardonnay
We love the idea of wines that change our perceptions. Most people think of Chardonnay as a buttery, oaked, luscious wine. Not this Chardonnay. This wine is lighter, refreshing, and fun that goes with food or a cocktail party. It’s a have your cake and eat it too mentality that we can’t help but respect from Rocland Wine Company who produces these fantastic Chocolate Box Wines. This is Chardonnay for the non-Chardonnay drinkers. It screams possibilities, and I have to think that if you blind tasted the die-hard Chardonnay fans in your wine circle, they would love it too. A blend of fruit from California Central Coast, this wine has a nice vibrancy about it, and juicy notes of apricots and pears. It’s perfect for those summertime dishes like seared ahi tuna salads and tequila lime chicken.
